Campaign: Afrocuration COVID-19 Response Edit-a-thon

Covid-19 virus is ravaging the world, thus far infecting over 400,000 people and killing over 18,000 worldwide. Vital new information is continually emerging about the virus day by day which can deliver life-saving instructions, reassure the confused, and guide those with the ability and resources how best to support others. Unfortunately, we have become aware that:

1.Many pieces of key information are not available in the official languages spoken by the communities of our AfroCuration participants (isiXhosa, isiZulu, seTswana, Sesotho, Tshivenda, Sepedi, Afrikaans). 2.Information that is available in these languages is not on Wikipedia, where millions of people go to check for information daily.

Moleskine Foundation proposes to hold a 100% virtual AfroCuration edit-a-thon to translate vital Coronavirus related articles into official South African languages. We will need to accelerate the planning stage and implement quickly as it is part of a disaster response, despite this being the first time to try this virtual format.
